Rewind a couple of months, and as though facing a pandemic wasn’t anxiety-inducing enough, we also added our biggest ever launch of the year to the mix. We had been planning it for over a year. New chains were ready and waiting to be photographed but the shoot was looking more and more unlikely by the minute. Cue long nights, many video calls and cross-eyes from looking at the word ‘chains’ so many times. We even had concerns that it wasn’t the right time to launch newness, so we asked you on Instagram and you said you absolutely wanted to see what we had been working on!

Chains is a particularly poignant collection for us all here at Missoma. Its whole raison d’etre was, and is, very important right now. We wear our jewellery like badges of honour, and although they might just be a styling staple to your everyday tee, they often have memories or moments tied to them.

Missoma is a brand for all life moments, but we also believe it’s so important to celebrate those little wins - the ones that you might overlook. And today? We need to celebrate and collect those more than ever. If we don’t do anything else productive during lockdown (banana bread, we’re looking at you), this would be enough. More than enough.

We are counting our blessings every day, and when we check in with the teams on video calls we are checking in on morale and finding out what everyone is grateful for that day. So with this in mind, we wanted to share with you one rather big thing we are grateful for, because it’s really important to look back and reflect on achievements, rather than just sprinting ahead on to the next task.

Today (and every day) we are grateful for our team…

Did you know we produce 90% of our content in-house? This is because we’ve already got the best on the job - so here’s their take on our biggest launch yet, from our Brand Manager to our Photographer and Stylist.

"The photoshoot for CHAINS really was touch and go. At one point we simply didn't think it could go ahead, but we regrouped as a team and through grit and determination, we achieved something spectacular. Being on shoot location is truly our happy place. Seeing a years’ worth of work being brought to life really is a special thing. I treasure the fact that I have such a skilled and passionate team around me which drives our ship forward. They keep me inspired and they keep me laughing, and honestly what are we all here for if it isn't to be happy? I want to take this opportunity to thank my entire team. Your strength knows no bounds and I'm so grateful for you all. Thank you."

“Missoma has been my professional home for nearly five years, and the team are like my second family. We have achieved so much in really what is quite a short amount of time, and I couldn’t be more grateful for those around me for all their positive energy (even facing lockdown). Teamwork really does make the dream work right? The Chains story is a poignant one, and I’m brimming with joy to now be able to share this with all of you.

One of the things I’m most grateful for at Missoma is that I am still, five years on, photographing the campaigns alongside wingman Julien. Nowhere else would I be able to live and breathe my side hustle, and with such an amazing team at my side. Furthermore, the branding refresh was the breath of fresh air we needed right now. We were on a mission to inject some fun and playfulness into the brand, so to be able to launch this alongside the new Chains launch… AND two charity initiatives… while on lockdown is incredible. My thanks goes to Julien for editing about 12,000 images and videos all in just two days, to Lucy for styling such a mega campaign, and to Marisa for endlessly being the biggest cheerleader of them all.

“When I first interviewed for a graphics job with Missoma, the recruiter told me not to tell Marisa that I was a photographer; they felt it would be distracting, so I kept my mouth shut. A month later and on my first day, I got chatting to Kate and let it slip. Two years on and I’m shooting regularly for the brand and could never have perceived back then how passionate I would feel about gold chains! On the day of the Chains shoot, I knew we needed to create six months’ worth of content - photo and video - while constantly washing our hands and maintaining strict hygiene standards, which is no mean feat! It has certainly been my most unique shoot yet.”

“It was a bit touch and go ahead of the campaign shoot. Reports of Covid-19 were emerging but we knew we could achieve so much in just a few days if we powered through. My job is to produce the photoshoots and bring to life Marisa’s creative vision. Oh and I also do a bit o’ styling too. With so many chains and different trousers, jackets, overalls…it was like that mad rush before you go out, but tenfold. I’m so proud of what we’ve produced, and when the shoot days came around, the models really brought the pieces to life. I’m pretty chuffed with my styling too! The emphasis on celebrating our little wins is something I always forget to do, so I’m thrilled to be sharing such a colourful reminder to myself and others.”

“I tend to obsess about the tiny details… refining designs with exact measurements down to the smallest micron and millimeter… so by the time launch comes around it’s a chance for me to see them in a fresh light as they are brought to life by the team.

Seeing the amazing styling and the photography done by my team mates and friends is a real privilege, it’s truly where they thrive and the laughter is infectious. I loved being on the shoot, seeing the team in their natural habitat! It all comes alive and together at that precise point on the shoot is so exciting like a chemical reaction. I couldn’t be more proudof what we have achieved.

So many roles change on shoot days, and there is so much talent in the room. Marisa the cheerleader is running around, doing everything from directing scenes to doing all the heavy lifting, Kate’s behind the lens instead of in the meeting room, and Julien just never wants to stop shooting…even for lunch. It’s an incredibly supportive atmosphere, all with a common goal – It’s why our content had always been amazing, because it’s created with such passion. I love being on location because it gives me an opportunity to see the pieces IRL…how do they layer together, what pieces are people loving most…and that in turn informs the next designs.”
